Girls Team – The Streak Continues at Calif ClassicEven with two Level 9 team members out—one starring on stage, the other healing from a recent knee injury—the first place team trophy and the bars title came home to New Hope from this weekend’s meet (Feb 24-25)—the California Classic, in San Diego. Alex Leggitt (age 16+) had a terrific meet, claiming her typical first place on vault as well as on floor and all-around. And, showing their team depth in the 14-15 age division, Lisa Wiktorski took first and second on vault and bars and placed first in the all-around, Brittanie Maxwell claimed the beam title, Taylor Webber placed first and second on bars and beam…and Lena Kardos and Rachel Squier placed second and third on floor. For the age 11-13 division, Molly McFarland (on vault) and Kaylie Higa (on beam) had strong showings, each with a hard-earned 9.325.
The competition for the Levels 8s was tough and team members few…but Rachel Tickenoff did not give up her title as vault queen—receiving another big 9.35 from the judges. Ashley Privett, finally healthy from the flu and a minor foot injury…came in a very respectable fifth place in the all-around.
The Level 7s were more than impressive—with Kendra Johns placing first in each of the three events she competed—vault, beam and floor. And, Kinsey Aherne showed us just how much fun gymnastics can be by taking home the all-around title and first place on vault and floor, losing the bars to team-mate Rae Adams by a mere .025! Paige Danley’s 9.525 on bars and Chanelle Sekas’ first place scores--9.325 on vault and 9.575 on bars—helped claim the vault and bars team title…and a very close second place finish for the team trophy.
